Leaving A Mark
This Masonic Map of Illinois was drawn and published by William Billington in 1862. Bro. Billington was a civil engineer and one of the five founding members of Tyrian Lodge No.333 that were raised while working under dispensation before being chartered in October of 1860, Bro. Billington was raised on 4/12/1860 and went on to serve as Secretary in 1862.
The map that Bro. Billington created shows all the masonic lodges, county seats, railroads, railroad stations and the distances between each station.
Thank you to Christina Briones of California, Bro Billington’s 2nd Great Grand Daughter for
sharing this piece of Illinois masonic history with us during our states bicentennial celebration.
Bro. Billington's lodge record. Typical of lodges to keep member records on index card.
